This one is all about YOU!

5 ways to make yourself a priority blog

Who else is guilty of putting themselves last in order to keep everything else running smoothly?! This was a kicker for me as I began my health and fitness journey. It wasn’t until I came to the realization that I wouldn’t be able to give my best to anyone else unless I made my own health and happiness a priority that I truly began to focus on myself and my own well-being. Trust me, it’s worth it!

So, I’ve put together a list of 5 things you can do to make and keep your personal health and happiness a top priority! Here ya go…

  1. Journal – You’re probably thinking, “yeah, yeah, been there done that…give me something new.” But I’m serious…this has been a total game-changer for me. If you’ve tried journaling before and it just hasn’t stuck with you, try changing up your journaling routine. Every morning I spend about 10 minutes reflecting, goal-setting, and visualizing. I start with a motivational quote (thank you, Pinterest), and then I make 2 lists. The first is of 3 things I am grateful for. I always come up with at least 3. Always. The second is of 3 daily goals that I want to accomplish during the day. This is NOT a to-d0 list. These are short-term goals that work towards long-term goals I have set for myself. Just by writing these things down I have created a mindset of determination and am ready to take on the day!
  2. PLAN time to exercise – Go ahead and set aside windows of time during the week to get your exercise in. Whether this means looking at your schedule on Sunday or deciding each night before you go to bed, pencil your workouts in on your calendar. Preparing yourself is half the battle…pack your gym bag and take it to work with you! Minimize your excuses, not your effort 🙂
  3. Meal Plan/Prep – Do this every weekend. If you need help getting started, here is a good template for beginning the meal planning process. Do this every Saturday/Sunday before going to the grocery store. This has saved me SO much time packing lunches every morning. I make lunches for the week every Sunday and am never in a rush to throw something together on early weekday mornings. Plus, I know that I am eating a balanced, well-portioned meal 🙂 I also never worry about having to stop by the grocery store on my way home from work, because dinner has already been thought about, purchased, and ready to be prepared. Win, win!
  4. Make time for YOU – Seriously. It’s not selfish. Whether you spend this time watching Netflix, grabbing dinner with friends, in your favorite book, or at the gym (tie it in with #2 if you’re feeling guilty), this time should be all about YOU, and it should happen at least once a week. Remember, you can’t give others your best if you aren’t at your best, yourself!
  5. Stay Motivated! – This one is different for everybody. For me, it’s usually splurging on new workout clothes, making a new music playlist, or browsing Pinterest for inspiration/motivation. Sometimes I even go back and read my journal from that morning for an extra motivational boost. Whatever works for you, do it!

Just remember, YOU are the best project you will ever work on! How are you going to make {and keep} yourself a priority this week?!

XO, Kristen
